Speculation is reaching a fever pitch that Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, is preparing to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Sources suggest the move could happen officially right after the upcoming Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.Reports claim APC leaders have offered Lawal an automatic ticket for the 2027 governorship election and 40% control of all political appointments in the state to win him over.
The Governor’s potential exit is linked to the ongoing leadership battle in the PDP following a disputed national convention in Ibadan that was recently declared "null and void" by a high court.
Governor Lawal told stakeholders in Gusau that his final decision depends on the Court of Appeal's verdict. If the court rules against the current PDP leadership, he may finally jump ship.
While some APC leaders want him in, other party members in Zamfara are reportedly unhappy, fearing they will lose their positions to the Governor's supporters.
