Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has strongly dismissed rumors of his death, telling those wishing him ill that he is healthy and "strong as ever."

Speaking in Abeokuta during a colloquium for his 89th birthday, the elder statesman laughed off a fake letter circulating on social media that claimed he was saying his final goodbyes.

Using the popular Nigerian slang for "I am solid/strong," Obasanjo assured the public that he is in good health and has no plans of dying anytime soon.

He condemned a forged document that went viral on WhatsApp and social media, which falsely claimed to be an excerpt from his memoirs about his passing.

The former President stated that God has kept him alive for a reason and that he will continue to live as long as his Creator has work for him to do on Earth.

Obasanjo described those spreading the rumors as "never-do-wells" and warned that those wishing for his death would have to answer to God.
