Political lobbying is heating up in Abuja as Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, prepares to step down from his cabinet position.
Adelabu is reportedly planning to contest the 2027 Oyo State governorship election under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Under the Electoral Act 2026, political appointees must resign before participating in party primaries, which are scheduled for April and May 2026.
Adelabu has already declared his ambition, noting that after two previous attempts, he believes 2027 is his time to lead Oyo State.
With a vacancy expected soon, several individuals are already lobbying the presidency for the powerful ministerial role.
Adelabu’s team says there is no official order from President Bola Tinubu to resign yet, but industry experts believe he will move soon to meet electoral deadlines.
