Beyond simple border control, the new immigration cooperation framework between Nigeria and the Government of the United Kingdom places a heavy emphasis on the rights and dignity of citizens.

Unlike previous years where migrants might have been deported with nothing, this Migration MoU ensures that every individual can carry their personal belongings or make arrangements to dispose of their property before departure.

Furthermore, the agreement allows individuals to file a claim under domestic legislation if they face significant obstacles to integration or have lived the majority of their lives in the host country.

To ensure a smooth transition, the reintegration assistance program offers a tiered support system. Short-term assistance includes airport reception and onward transportation, while medium-term assistance helps with family reunification and counselling services

For those looking to start over, the Returnee Education and Entrepreneurship Fund provides access to the local job market, vocational training, and business setup support.

By promoting regulated migration, the Federal Government aims to tackle irregular migration while ensuring that Nigerians returning home are treated with fundamental freedoms and respect.
