The Federal Government has taken a decisive stand by ordering the arrest and prosecution of individuals involved in sexual assaults during a traditional event in Delta State.
Following the circulation of a viral video depicting disturbing scenes at the Alue-Do Festival (also known as the Festival of Fertility), the Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, issued a formal directive from Abuja.
The Minister emphasized that no cultural or traditional practice can ever be used to justify sexual violence or the harassment of women.
To ensure accountability, the government is leaning on the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act and the Nigeria’s Constitution, both of which offer strict legal protections against such crimes.
While the Delta State Police Command has been praised for its swift response, the Minister is calling for an accelerated investigation that is both transparent and thorough.
The goal is to ensure that every implicated person is identified and brought to justice without delay, reinforcing the message that human dignity must be respected regardless of the setting.
