A devastating wave of violence has hit the Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State, leaving at least 15 people dead and many others with severe injuries.
The bloodshed occurred on Tuesday when armed bandits launched a coordinated assault on the villages of Farun Bala, Falale, and Kadobe.
This sudden outbreak of terror has deeply shocked residents, as these communities had recently been experiencing a rare period of stability.
According to local sources, the violence was sparked by a confrontation involving local vigilantes who intercepted suspects moving through the area with what appeared to be stolen cattle.
During the initial clash, three of the suspects were killed, which reportedly led to a massive retaliation.
Large numbers of armed groups returned to the villages, unleashing chaos and opening fire on innocent civilians.
While security operatives from the police and the Civilian Watch (C-Watch) have since been deployed to restore order, the incident highlights how fragile the community-led agreement remains.
Local leaders are now mourning the loss of life and warning that the hard-earned peace in the region is at risk of total collapse if such provocations continue.
