Insecurity as a Business: Deji Adeyanju Accuses Military Leaders of Profiting from Nigeria's Crisis

Prominent human rights activist Deji Adeyanju has raised a serious alarm, claiming that a segment of the military hierarchy is actually enjoying the state of unrest in the country.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Adeyanju argued that insecurity in Nigeria has evolved into a highly profitable enterprise for those at the top.

He suggested that as long as billions of naira are being pumped into the defense budget, those benefiting from the diversion of funds have no real desire to see peace restored.

According to the activist, the persistence of violence in regions like the North East cannot be explained without acknowledging internal collaboration and the complicity of high-ranking officers.

Adeyanju pointed to the visible wealth of certain top military generals, questioning how they are able to afford massive estates in Abuja on their official salaries.

He alleged that money meant for the Boko Haram insurgency is being used for personal enrichment instead of providing equipment for soldiers on the front lines.

The activist believes that until the "business" aspect of war is removed, the cycle of bandits and terror will continue, as ending the conflict would mean cutting off the flow of security money that fuels these private investments.
