In a bold and transparent address, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, has called for a shift in how the security situation is handled in the North-East.

Speaking in Maiduguri alongside the Chief of Army Staff, the CDS made it clear that many of those carrying out acts of terrorism are not strangers but are actually the "brothers, sisters, and cousins" of the local people.

Following a direct order from President Bola Tinubu to relocate to the region, the military chiefs are pushing for a strategy where residents take full ownership of the problem.

The CDS highlighted a disturbing trend of local complicity, citing a recent attack in Kukawa where investigators discovered that the attackers were actually living within the village they raided.

He argued that the Boko Haram insurgency continues to thrive because criminals are being shielded by their own kin.

To achieve a collective resolve, the military is demanding that communities stop acting as accomplices and start identifying the insurgent fighters hiding in plain sight.

By exposing these "insider threats," the residents of Borno and Yobe can provide the critical intelligence needed to restore peace and stability to the region.
