In a dramatic turn of events for African football, the continental governing body has stripped Senegal of their standing and declared the host nation the official champions.

The decision follows a controversial final match that ended in a forfeit due to a protest on the pitch.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially crowned Morocco as the champions of the 2025 African Cup of Nations

Following a dramatic and controversial final in Rabat, the CAF Appeal Board overturned the initial match result and awarded a 3-0 forfeit victory to the host nation.

The decision comes after the Senegal National Team walked off the pitch in a historic protest, an act that officials have now ruled as a direct violation of tournament rules.

According to a formal CAF statement, the board applied Article 84 of the Regulations, which dictates that any team refusing to complete a match must forfeit.

The Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football (FRMF) successfully lodged an appeal, arguing that the conduct of the "Lions of Teranga" fell within the scope of disciplinary infringements

As a result, the previous board decisions were set aside, and Morocco was officially handed the TotalEnergies AFCON trophy.

While the football world remains divided over the scenes in Rabat, the result of the match is now set in stone, effectively ending Senegal's hopes for back-to-back titles under these extraordinary circumstances.
