A High Court in Port Harcourt has ordered the Chairmen of Obio/Akpor, Port Harcourt City, and ONELGA, along with their deputies and councillors, to appear in court.

They must explain why the local government elections held on August 30, 2025, should not be canceled.

Three members of the PDP filed the case. They argue that the party leaders who submitted the names of the candidates for the election did not have the legal right to do so.

The court needs to decide if the PDP Chairman at the time, Aaron Chukwuemeka, was legally allowed to lead the party. A previous court ruling had already questioned his position and the party congresses that put him in power.

The plaintiffs argue that if the leader’s position was "null and void," then any candidates he chose—including the current LG Chairmen—were not properly nominated.

Justice Stephen Jumbo has adjourned the case until March 17, 2026. Until then, the court papers will be served at the PDP state headquarters on Aba Road.
