A chieftain of the Yoruba group Afenifere, Akin Fapohunda, has sent a strong warning to Peter Obi, the former Labor Party presidential candidate.
During an interview with Symfoni TV on March 10, 2026, Fapohunda urged Obi to take his personal security seriously, claiming that the country would quickly move on if anything happened to him.
Fapohunda stated that while Peter Obi is a major political figure, his death wouldn't cause a revolution. He predicted there would only be "little riots" before life returns to normal.
The Afenifere leader emphasized that Obi should not rely on his popularity for protection but should actively "protect himself" amid rising political tensions.
Fapohunda also took a swipe at Governor Monday Okpebholo, claiming he lacks the right mindset for leadership and is merely a "puppet" for Senator Adams Oshiomhole.
He compared the current power dynamic in Edo State to the days of Lamidi Adedibu in Oyo State, where one "strongman" controlled everything the governor did.
