The 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has paid a high-profile visit to the former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN).
This visit was intended to show support for the former law officer who is currently entangled in intense legal proceedings involving heavy allegations.
Malami is currently facing scrutiny over terrorism financing, the possession of illegal firearms, and a massive ₦8.7 billion fraud and money laundering case.
According to a social media update by the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Obi met with Malami to offer encouragement following his recent interactions with the EFCC and DSS.
The meeting took place shortly after Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court in Abuja granted Malami a ₦200 million bail. As part of the strict bail conditions, Malami and his family were required to provide title deeds for properties in elite areas like Maitama or Asokoro.
Despite the bail grant, they were ordered to remain in the Nigerian Correctional Service custody until all paperwork is finalized and their international passports are surrendered to the court.
