Former Senator Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello has explained that her decision to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) was driven by personal relationships rather than just political strategy.

Speaking on Channels Television's Morning Brief on March 6, 2026, the daughter of the former president revealed that during her 15-year break from active politics, only members of the APC reached out to check on her well-being.

After losing her Senate re-election bid in 2011, Iyabo moved to the U.S. for her PhD and a leadership program at Harvard, effectively leaving the PDP years ago.

She noted that while she was away, no one from the PDP or other parties like the ADC communicated with her, whereas APC members regularly showed they "cared about her as a human being."

The former lawmaker described the APC as her natural home and stated she feels 100% comfortable with the actors and leadership within the party.

Having formally registered in Ward 11, Ifo Local Government Area, she has now set her sights on the Ogun State governorship ticket for the 2027 elections.
