In a major administrative shift, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has appointed Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Anthony Okon Placid as its new Force Public Relations Officer.

He takes over from Benjamin Hundeyin, who has served as the national spokesperson since September 2025.

Sources indicate the switch was partly due to rank traditions, as the national spokesperson role is typically held by a Deputy Commissioner (DCP).

The Police hierarchy also announced the creation of a New Media Office, which will be led by Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Ali Giwa.

Before his removal, Hundeyin made headlines for defending the new IGP Tunji Disu, insisting that the police leadership would not be swayed by "emotional blackmail" or social media pressure regarding ongoing court cases.

The outgoing spokesperson emphasized that under IGP Disu, no officer—no matter how high-ranking—is above the law.
