An investigative panel set up by the Federal Ministry of Education has commended the leadership of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) for their role in uncovering the alleged certificate forgery of former Minister Uche Nnaji

The panel, led by Rakiya Gambo Ilyasu, found that the university followed the law when it confirmed that Nnaji did not graduate from the institution.

The panel praised Vice-Chancellor Prof. Simon Ortuanya and former Acting VC Prof. Oguejiofor Ujam for "restoring the dignity of man" by upholding the truth about the school's records.

After a deep audit of the 1985 graduation lists and Senate archives, the panel confirmed that Nnaji’s name was missing.

The panel ruled that the university acted correctly under the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act when it responded to media inquiries about the ex-minister's academic status.

Records showed that Nnaji actually applied to retake a failed Virology course (MCB 431) in 1986, making it impossible for him to have graduated in 1985 as his certificate claimed.
