The long-standing legal dispute between the Minister of Works, David Umahi, and businesswoman Tracy Ohiri has taken a dramatic turn.
The federal minister has officially moved to commence court proceedings following renewed public allegations regarding a ₦250 million campaign debt.
Ohiri claims the debt stems from promotional and printing services rendered during Umahi’s 2015 governorship campaign in Ebonyi State.
This protracted dispute is not just about money; it involves sensitive allegations of sexual harassment and unpaid debts.
According to the businesswoman, her attempts to recover the funds were met with unwanted advances, which she claims to have rejected, leading to threats and police intervention.
The situation saw Ohiri arrested in Lagos on cyberbullying charges before being transferred to Abuja, where she was arraigned for defamation.
A brief window of peace appeared when a viral apology video was released by Ohiri, facilitated by her lawyer, Marshall Abubakar.
However, she has since retracted that apology, claiming she was pressured and promised financial compensation that never arrived.
In a bold response, Francis Nwaz, the Minister's Senior Special Assistant on Media, stated that Umahi is ready to pay ₦1 billion if Ohiri can provide verifiable evidence and communication logs to prove her claims.
If no credible proof is provided, the legal team has been instructed to pursue the matter in court to establish the absolute truth.
