The Medical and Dental Practitioners Investigation Panel has suspended three senior doctors in Lagos following the death of Nkanu Adichie-Esege.
Nkanu was the son of world-famous author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and Dr. Ivara Esege.
The panel suspended Dr. Tunde Majekodunmi (Medical Director of Euracare Hospital), Dr. Titus Ogundare (an anesthesiologist), and Dr. Atinuke Uwajeh (Chief Medical Officer at Atlantis Pediatric Hospital).
After a thorough investigation, the panel found evidence suggesting "medical negligence" in how the young boy’s case was handled.
Along with the three suspensions, the panel found that 10 other doctors have a case to answer regarding professional misconduct. However, eight other doctors involved in the case were cleared of any wrongdoing.
The suspended doctors are barred from practicing medicine in Nigeria until a final decision is made by the Disciplinary Tribunal.
