The anti-graft agency has provided a detailed timeline to explain why Nasir El-Rufai remains in their custody as of March 2026.

Contrary to media speculation, the ICPC maintains that they are not seeking "fresh orders" but are simply following the valid court order already in place.

The agency traced the journey from El-Rufai's arrival on February 12, his invitation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on February 16, and his subsequent transfer to the ICPC on February 19.

The commission emphasized that it prefers to conduct its investigation progress updates within the courtroom rather than through public debate.

The case has become increasingly complex due to a parallel Department of State Services (DSS) investigation involving allegations of illegally monitoring phone lines belonging to the National Security Adviser.

While El-Rufai's lawyers have made multiple efforts to cancel a previous remand, including a rejected attempt on March 9, the ICPC insists that his current detention is strictly lawful.

With the court now adjourned until the end of the month, the agency continues to focus on its legal procedures regarding the alleged financial misconduct during his tenure, standing firm on its commitment to court requirements and transparency.
