With exactly 100 days to go until the 2026 FIFA World Cup, football's world governing body has begun the official countdown.

However, FIFA has still not given an answer regarding Nigeria’s protest against DR Congo, leaving the Super Eagles' fate in the air.

FIFA announced that the tournament—the largest ever with 48 teams—will begin on June 11, 2026, with a match between Mexico and South Africa.

Nigeria’s Football Federation (NFF) officially complained after losing a playoff to DR Congo in late 2025. They claim DR Congo cheated by using players who were not legally eligible to play for them.

The protest focuses on players Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Axel Tuanzebe. Nigeria argues that because DR Congo laws don't allow dual citizenship, these former England youth players shouldn't have been on the field.

DR Congo is scheduled to play another qualifying match later this month. Nigerian fans are frustrated that FIFA has stayed silent for over two months while the tournament gets closer.
