A decorated frontline officer, Major Shamsudeen Sani, has reportedly been held in solitary confinement for months in Maiduguri.
The Major, who has spent over a decade fighting Boko Haram and ISWAP, was detained after making a "tactical withdrawal" to save his soldiers' lives during a heavy terrorist ambush.
Sources claim the Major has been cut off from his two wives, children, and lawyers since his arrest.
The Army reportedly accuses him of "abandoning" his position, while supporters argue he only moved his troops to wait for reinforcements and prevent a massacre.
Major Sani has served in Nigeria’s most dangerous zones since 2012. Friends and family are calling for his release or a fair trial, fearing he is being punished for prioritizing his men's safety.
Critics warn that treating dedicated officers this way makes military service feel like a "death sentence" rather than a sacrifice for the country.
