Former Senator and academic Professor Daniel Saror has opened up about his role in blocking the famous "Third Term Agenda" linked to former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Speaking with Vanguard, the former lawmaker stated that he has zero regrets about opposing the move, as it saved Nigeria’s democracy from potential disaster.
Saror argued that allowing a President to stay past the legal limit of two terms creates a "dangerous cycle" where leaders never want to leave.
He believes that if the Third Term bid had succeeded, Nigeria would be a much more unstable place today, similar to other African nations with "forever leaders."
According to the Professor, once a leader tastes power beyond the constitutional limit, the chance of them stepping down voluntarily becomes almost zero.
As a former Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, Saror emphasized that term limits are the only way to ensure political progress and fresh leadership.
