The Nigeria Police Force held a grand "pull-out" ceremony in Abuja on Thursday to officially mark the retirement of the former Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun.
After a career spanning 36 years, Egbetokun stepped down, handing over the reins to the new leadership after serving since his appointment by President Bola Tinubu in 2023.
Egbetokun noted that during his time, the police boosted their investigative capacity and modernized the cybercrime unit to fight online fraud.
He joined the force in 1990 and rose through the ranks from a Cadet to the very top position.
He is succeeded by the new IGP, Tunji Disu, who was recently sworn in at the Presidential Villa.
Although there was a debate about how long he should stay in office, Egbetokun chose to resign in February 2026 to focus on his family.
