The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has officially asked a Federal High Court in Abuja to dismiss a fundamental rights lawsuit filed by the former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai

The former governor is demanding ₦1 billion in damages after security agents searched his Abuja home, claiming the move was illegal and violated his privacy.

El-Rufai sued the IGP, the ICPC, and the Attorney-General, claiming a recent search of his house was a breach of his human rights.

The IGP argued that the search was completely legal and was backed by a valid search warrant issued by a court.

The police chief suggested that El-Rufai is only filing this ₦1 billion suit to stop the government from investigating or prosecuting him for alleged crimes.

Justice Joyce Abdulmalik has moved the hearing to March 25, 2026, to allow all legal teams to finish filing their paperwork.
