In a dramatic twist at the Lagos Special Offences Court, Henry Omoile, a co-defendant in the ₦4.5 billion fraud trial of former CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele, has backtracked on his previous statements.
On Friday, March 6, 2026, Omoile claimed that his earlier confessions were false and made under pressure from investigators.
Omoile told Justice Rahman Oshodi that he only wrote what EFCC investigators told him to write because he was "threatened with court charges" and just wanted to go home.
The defendant alleged that the head of the investigation team promised him bail if he provided evidence to implicate Godwin Emefiele.
This specific hearing was held to decide if Omoile's statements were given voluntarily or if they should be thrown out of the case.
The judge has moved the matter to April 17, 2026, for the final legal arguments regarding these statements.
