The Peoples Democratic Party is currently in a state of shock following reports that its Governors’ Forum Chairman, Bala Mohammed, is on the verge of jumping ship to the APC.
The controversy followed intense private meetings where the governor reportedly sought a 60-40 sharing arrangement of the party structure in Bauchi to ensure he can still influence his successor.
Despite his efforts to secure his political legacy, the APC leadership remains firm that he cannot nominate the next governor, leaving him "stuck" between his current role and his future ambitions.
This potential political shift has sparked deep anger among opposition members, particularly those aligned with Seyi Makinde, who view the move as a blow to the future of the opposition.
Beyond the power struggle, the move is also being linked to the need for a security umbrella as administrative investigations into his cabinet intensify.
As Mohammed convenes a stakeholders’ meeting in Bauchi this week, all eyes are on the presidency to see if the final terms of this massive defection will be accepted or if the governor will remain within the PDP's shrinking circle.
