Several of President Bola Tinubu’s ministers are reportedly preparing to step down from their federal roles to run for governor in their home states.

With the 2027 general elections approaching and new INEC guidelines in place, these officials must resign before participating in party primaries scheduled for April and May 2026.

Adebayo Adelabu is expected to resign in the coming weeks to seek the Oyo State governorship ticket under the APC. His team confirmed he is ready for another shot at the seat.

Both Yusuf Tuggar (Foreign Affairs) and Muhammad Pate (Health) are reportedly eyeing the Bauchi State governorship. Supporters have already visited Abuja to urge Dr. Pate to join the race.

The Minister of State for Labour, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, is reportedly planning a return to the National Assembly after serving four terms in the House of Representatives.

While the ministers remain in office for now, they are required by law to resign before the APC primaries begin in late April.
