Kenneth Okonkwo, a veteran Nollywood actor and politician, has cautioned against supporting a military coup in Nigeria, saying the country has gained nothing from past interventions except "tears and blood".

In a statement, Okonkwo acknowledged Nigerians' frustration with President Bola Tinubu's government, citing issues like insecurity, power grid collapses, corruption, and poor infrastructure.

However, he emphasized that a military coup isn't the solution, as it often leads to worse outcomes.

"The era of military dictatorship in Nigeria is over," Okonkwo declared, urging all stakeholders, including the military, to work towards free and fair elections that'll produce legitimate leaders prioritizing citizens' security and welfare.

Okonkwo's comments come amid reports of some military officers being arrested for an alleged coup attempt against Tinubu's government.

He stressed that rigging elections is a form of "civilian coup" and that Nigerians shouldn't trade one problem for another.
