A prominent traditional ruler from Enugu State, Dr. Lawrence Agubuzu, has made a bold plea to President Bola Tinubu to release the imprisoned IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
Speaking at a national summit in Abuja on Tuesday, the monarch warned that keeping Kanu in prison is making it impossible for leaders to maintain peace in the South-East.
The monarch told the President that if Nigeria does not want Kanu, he should be "deported" back to Kenya or London, rather than kept in detention.
He explained that South-East youths are so angry that they now see traditional rulers as "sell-outs." He warned that monarchs are even at risk of being attacked by agitated young people.
Agubuzu pointed out a perceived double standard, noting that while Kanu is in prison, other activists like Sunday Igboho are reportedly being celebrated with traditional titles.
