Adams Oshiomhole, former Edo State governor, has revealed that he won his 2012 re-election without resorting to vote buying.
In an interview on News Central's Politics HQ, Oshiomhole emphasized that he openly warned voters against accepting bribes, saying, "My 2012 re-election in Edo State, I won in all 18 local government areas. I did not give money to anybody".
He recalled telling voters, "If my opponent has money to give you, collect it, no receipt, no refund. But I have no money to give you, but I'll give you my all in terms of development."
Oshiomhole stressed that election integrity is crucial to democracy, and existing laws already penalize vote buying and result manipulation.
"The worst crime you can commit is to cheat on elections," he said, highlighting penalties for electoral malpractices, including fines and jail terms for presiding officers who undermine the electorate's will.
