Yemi Osinbajo, Nigeria's former Vice President, survived a harrowing helicopter crash on February 2, 2019, in Kabba, Kogi State, while campaigning for the 2019 general elections.

The AgustaWestland AW139 helicopter, operated by Caverton Helicopters, was carrying Osinbajo and 11 others when it crash-landed, striking the ground on its right landing gear.

Miraculously, all occupants escaped unhurt.

According to reports, the helicopter had departed Abuja's Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at 1:46 pm, with clear weather conditions and a smooth initial flight.

However, at 2:20 pm, the multi-purpose flight recorder (MPFR) failed, and at 2:34 pm, the chopper crash-landed.

Laolu Akande, Osinbajo's former media aide, shared that the Vice President resumed campaigning less than an hour after the crash, showcasing his determination and courage.

Akande praised Osinbajo's leadership, stating, "Such was the courage on display and the determination in our hearts".

This incident was Osinbajo's second helicopter-related scare within a year. In June 2018, a chopper he was on developed a technical fault shortly after takeoff and was forced to land.

The Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) attributed the crash to poor landing technique, brownout conditions, and lack of risk assessment.
