Prominent lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Mike Ozekhome, is reportedly being held by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
While a previous court case against him was recently dropped, sources say he is now facing fresh allegations.
Just hours after a high court in Abuja dismissed forgery charges against him, intelligence sources confirmed that the EFCC took him into custody for a new set of investigations.
The Attorney-General’s office asked the court to withdraw the initial charges. They explained that they need more time to combine evidence from different agencies to build a stronger case.
The legal trouble involves a disputed property in London. A UK tribunal recently ruled that the house actually belonged to the late General Jeremiah Useni, claiming that several documents used to prove Ozekhome’s ownership were forged or fake.
Prosecutors previously accused Ozekhome of receiving the London property illegally and using a forged Nigerian passport to claim he owned it.
