Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has revealed that former Attorney-General Abubakar Malami sent representatives to ask for his help while in custody.
Sowore, who has often been arrested by the government in the past, noted the irony of former powerful officials now seeking help from the activists they once targeted.
Sowore claimed that Malami and his team reached out because they now view him and his lawyers as the most "credible" people to help them navigate their legal troubles.
Regarding reports that former Governor Nasir El-Rufai suffered a nosebleed in detention, Sowore suggested it might be a move to gain public sympathy. However, he jokingly added that if the government wants to help, they should take El-Rufai to one of the hospitals he built while in office.
Sowore advised current politicians to improve prison conditions and the justice system today, because they never know when they might end up on the other side of the bars.
While Sowore stated he does not support unfair treatment, he remarked that these men are now being "consumed" by the same harsh system they helped create while they were in power.
