Arsenal’s star winger Bukayo Saka did not hide his frustration after the Gunners threw away a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Wolves on Wednesday night.
Saka, who captained the side, admitted that the team’s second-half performance was simply not good enough for a side chasing the title.
Arsenal looked strong early on, with goals from Saka and Piero Hincapié putting them 2-0 up. However, they lost control after the break, allowing Wolves to fight back and equalize in stoppage time.
Saka told Sky Sports that the dressing room felt "very flat" and that the team fell far below the high standards they have set for themselves this season.
Usually positive, manager Mikel Arteta was unusually blunt after the game, admitting his team "deserved to take the hit" because they didn't perform in any aspect of the game.
Pundit Paul Merson said he was "shocked" by Arteta's gloomy mood, suggesting that the pressure of the title race might finally be getting to the manager.
