Anger in Civil Service: Federal Workers Cry Out Over Pay Cuts and Unpaid Debts

Federal civil servants across Nigeria are currently facing a major financial crisis. Many workers are reporting that their monthly take-home pay is shrinking without any explanation, while several allowances and promotion benefits have remained unpaid for years.

Workers in major ministries like Education and Agriculture haven't received official pay slips since September 2025. This makes it impossible for them to know why their salaries are reducing every month.

Three months of the special "wage award" (money meant to help with the high cost of living) have not been paid, despite many promises from the government.

Many officers promoted in 2024 and 2025 are still waiting for their new salary rates. Some senior officers are now earning the same amount as the juniors they supervise.

Labor unions are warning that if these "missing" allowances and salary cuts aren't fixed quickly, workers may go on strike or start nationwide protests.
