On Saturday, Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri held a special thanksgiving service to celebrate his sixth year in power.

The event, held at the Ecumenical Centre in Igbogene, was a mix of celebration and reflection as the Governor thanked God and the people for the progress made so far.

The service included a tribute to the late Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, who passed away during his time in office.

Governor Diri credited his success to teamwork and peace. He urged the people of Bayelsa to stay united and prayed that the next leader of the state would be even more successful than himself.

In a show of unity, the Minister of State for Petroleum (who is in a different political party) attended and described Diri’s rise to power as a "miracle" from God.

Leaders at the event praised the Governor for building important roads and keeping the state peaceful, which has helped reduce crime like sea piracy.
