An Arik Air flight traveling from Lagos to Port Harcourt had to make an emergency landing on Wednesday after one of its engines began to fail mid-air. Thankfully, the plane landed safely at Benin Airport, and everyone on board was unhurt.
What Happened in the Air: While the plane was high in the sky, the pilots noticed strange "warning signs" coming from one of the engines. To prevent a disaster, they followed their emergency training:
Engine Shutdown: They turned off the faulty engine while still flying.
Quick Diversion: They decided not to continue the long trip to Port Harcourt and instead headed for the closest safe airport, which was Benin.
Safe Exit: All passengers and crew members walked off the plane normally once it touched down.
The Investigation: Safety experts who looked at the plane in Benin say the engine appears to be "significantly damaged." A team is now on the way to listen to the "black box" (cockpit recordings) to find out exactly what went wrong.
