The famous Argungu International Fishing Festival ended with a bang on Saturday as Abubakar Usman emerged as the grand champion.
Abubakar, who traveled from the Maiyama local area, caught a massive fish weighing 59kg, earning him life-changing prizes.
For his record-breaking catch, Abubakar received ₦1 million cash and two brand new Toyota cars donated by the Sokoto State Government.
Second place went to Abdullahi Garba, who caught a 40kg fish and won a car and ₦1 million. Third place was shared by two men who caught 34kg fishes; they each took home ₦1 million and a motorcycle.
President Bola Tinubu attended as the Guest of Honour, praising the festival as a symbol of unity and a sign that security is returning to the region.
Governor Nasir Idris used the event to highlight his achievements, including building a new state secretariat and fixing major roads.
