The All Progressives Congress (APC) has suddenly paused its plans to elect new leaders at the ward, local, and state levels in Abia.
This unexpected move has made many people believe that Governor Alex Otti, currently with the Labour Party, might be preparing to join the APC.
On February 18, 2026, the APC top leaders wrote to INEC, officially stopping all congresses in Abia State until further notice.
The party says it needs more time for "consultations" and "administrative preparations" to make sure the elections are transparent.
Although the party didn't mention it, insiders suggest the pause is to make room for Governor Otti. As the only Labour Party governor in Nigeria, his potential move would be a massive change for the state's politics.
The APC promised to release a new timetable soon, but for now, everyone is watching to see if a big "defection" announcement is coming.
