While the government officially stated that Kayode Egbetokun resigned for "family reasons," new details suggest that President Tinubu actually asked him to step down.

Insiders have pointed to three major disagreements that led to the President's decision to bring in Tunji Disu as the new leader.

President Tinubu is a strong supporter of creating "State Police" to fight crime locally. However, Egbetokun publicly argued that Nigeria wasn't ready for it, fearing that state governors might use the power to bully their political enemies.

The President had ordered that police officers should stop acting as personal guards for VIPs and politicians, suggesting they use the Civil Defence (NSCDC) instead.

Reports show that Egbetokun did not strictly enforce this, and many officers remained attached to wealthy individuals.

Under Egbetokun, many journalists were arrested or harassed. This caused an international outcry, and a major press group even put him on a "List of Infamy," which embarrassed the government.
