Nigeria is set to launch two new communication satellites as part of efforts to boost its digital infrastructure and grow the economy to $1 trillion, according to Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani.
The satellites will help address Nigeria's lack of space-based connectivity, making it the only country in West Africa without active communication satellites. The move supports President Bola Tinubu's digital economy ambitions.
The government has also made progress on its 90,000km fibre optic project, with 60% completed and funding secured for the rest. The data protection sector has grown to a ₦16.2bn industry, creating jobs and attracting investors.
