Femi Kuti has expressed frustration over people associating him with former President Muhammadu Buhari and current President Bola Tinubu, stating it's "irritating" and hurtful.
He made this clear during an Arise Television appearance, reacting to Fela Anikulapo Kuti's posthumous Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
Femi described the award as a recognition of Fela's fearless fight against dictatorship, corruption, and injustice in Nigeria and Africa.
He recalled Fela's struggles, including state violence, arrests, and the burning of Kalakuta Republic. "It was raid after raid... We never knew when he'd be arrested or released," Femi said.
He emphasized Fela's music was a tool of resistance, shaped by Nigeria's political history. Femi rejected attempts to link him or his family to political figures Fela opposed, saying, "As Fela's son, it's impossible for us to be part of any government that's not for the people".
The Grammy award reflects decades of effort to preserve Fela's legacy, Femi said, adding, "Fela was a father to many people. He was a voice for the voiceless"
