The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has publicly challenged the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, accusing him of initiating a political battle that he lacks the strength to finish.
During the 107th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of his PDP faction, Wike took a firm stand against allegations that he is merely holding the Peoples Democratic Party together to benefit President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 General Elections.
The Minister dismissed these claims as both misleading and unfortunate, signaling a deepening rift within the opposition party.
In a stinging critique, Wike argued that political leadership is fundamentally different from commercial contracting.
He suggested that while some enter the arena seeking financial gain through business ventures, his primary focus has always been the acquisition and exercise of political power.
By referencing Makinde’s background with multinational companies like Shell, Wike drew a sharp line between being a contractor and being a power player.
He urged his supporters not to be intimidated by the current lack of PDP Governors, insisting that the party's strength lies in the quality of its candidates rather than just the number of seats held.
