In a recent interview, the face of one of Nigeria’s longest-running comedy series, Kehinde Olasehinde (Pa James), shared the "fine print" of his career in the entertainment industry.
While he maintains a positive relationship with creator Wale Adenuga, he explained the strict legal framework surrounding his character.
Because the name "Pa James" is a trademarked property, he is prohibited from portraying that specific persona in external productions, even though he is free to take on other acting roles.
The actor also provided a rare look into the production schedule of modern TV hits. In the past, the cast worked "back to back," but today, there are often long periods—sometimes up to two years—between filming sessions.
This gap in steady income makes it difficult to rely solely on the show for paying bills. He highlighted that while his earning rate has increased over the decades, the limited volume of work means that actors must be entrepreneurs outside of the studio.
Despite these challenges, he remains a familiar face on the show, which has been a staple of Nigerian television since the 1990s, proving that his character's legacy is still going strong.
