President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sent a glowing tribute to former President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo as he celebrates his 89th birthday today, March 5, 2026.
In a statement released by the presidency, Tinubu described Obasanjo as a leader whose influence is felt across the entire African continent.
Tinubu praised Obasanjo for his unique journey, from serving as a military Head of State (1976–1979) to becoming Nigeria’s first civilian president of the Fourth Republic (1999–2007).
The President noted Obasanjo’s bravery in leading troops to keep Nigeria united and his courage in facing imprisonment for speaking out against past dictators.
