"Political Shakeup in Makurdi": Akume Loyalists Join Ortom to Oppose Governor Alia’s 2027 Bid

The internal crisis rocking the Benue State APC has reached a new boiling point as supporters of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, move to block Governor Hyacinth Alia from seeking a second term.

In a move that has surprised many observers, these Akume loyalists were seen attending a PDP caucus meeting at the private residence of former Governor Samuel Ortom

This unusual partnership suggests a "corrective move" intended to wrestle control of the party structure back from the current administration.

During the gathering, a former Attorney-General, Michael Aondoakaa, criticized the leadership style of the governor, claiming that the administration has failed to meet the people's expectations.

He hinted that this new political alliance with the PDP has the secret backing of Senator Akume himself.

While the governor’s spokesperson, Tersoo Kula, dismissed the critics as "disgruntled elements" and insisted that the masses are with the governor, the presence of rival chairmen and the failure of peace talks led by Vice President Kashim Shettima suggest that the division is deep.

The battle is now centered on who will control the APC ticket allocation for the 2027 general elections.
