The Nigeria Police Council has officially approved the appointment of Tunji Disu as the substantive Inspector-General of Police (IGP).

President Bola Tinubu is now set to formally swear him into office this Wednesday during the Federal Executive Council meeting.

The decision was made at the State House on Monday. The meeting included the President, Vice President Kashim Shettima, state governors, and top security chiefs.

Governors and ministers took turns to praise Disu’s record. Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu specifically highlighted Disu’s success in fighting crime while leading the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Lagos.

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike also commended Disu, calling him a highly efficient crime fighter based on their time working together in both Rivers State and Abuja.

Disu’s confirmation follows the resignation of the former IGP, Kayode Egbetokun. Now that the Council has given its "unanimous" support, the transition is legally complete.
