The former Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Hazeem Gbolarumi, has publicly criticized Governor Seyi Makinde for allegedly planning to handpick his successor without involving other top members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)

Speaking during an Iftar gathering in Ibadan with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Gbolarumi questioned if the Governor intended to "shut us out politically" by making such a massive decision in isolation.

He warned that imposing a successor could alienate the very people who helped the Governor rise to power.

Gbolarumi, who is a well-known founding member of the PDP, expressed disappointment that party stakeholders are being sidelined not just in the 2027 transition plans, but also in the appointment of local government chairmen, commissioners, and special advisers.

He emphasized that for the party to remain strong, the Governor must engage PDP leaders in the state rather than acting alone.

Despite the current friction, Gbolarumi noted that this is a clash of political interests rather than a personal fight, though he remains firm that his faction currently holds the majority of the party structure in the state.
