The 2026 athletic season has officially kicked off for Nigeria’s sprint hurdler, Tobi Amusan, who delivered a strong performance at the Velocity Fest in Jamaica

Although she is globally recognized for her record-breaking speed in the 100m hurdles, Amusan demonstrated her impressive versatility by competing in the women’s 200m

She crossed the finish line with a season’s best time of 23.25 seconds, earning a well-deserved silver medal

The race featured a highly competitive field, with Jamaica’s own Elaine Thompson-Herah taking the gold with a time of 22.61 seconds, while Ackera Nugent rounded out the podium in third place.

This appearance was particularly significant as it marked Amusan's return to the track following the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, where she was celebrated as Nigeria’s only medallist after securing a silver.

This early-season outing in the 200m sprint serves as a vital warm-up, offering fans and analysts a glimpse into her current fitness levels.

As the 28-year-old world record holder builds momentum, all eyes are now turning toward her return to her signature event.

Her upcoming schedule is packed, and this podium finish in Jamaica provides the perfect foundation for the high-intensity international competitions looming on the horizon.
