The Nigerian Army has recorded a significant victory in its ongoing mission to restore peace to the Northwest. In a high-stakes operation targeting the Kagara Forest camp of the notorious bandit kingpin, Bello Turji, gallant troops successfully neutralized several armed bandits.
The mission, which centered around the Fakai community—a boundary area between the Shinkafi and Isa Local Government Areas—is part of a broader military offensive designed to dismantle the infrastructure of banditry in Zamfara and Sokoto states.
Led by the 8 Division Strike Force, the operation began in the early hours of March 20.
Despite a brief tactical challenge caused by mechanical faults in two combat support vehicles near Maberaya village, the soldiers demonstrated exceptional resilience.
When armed bandits attempted a desperate ambush by exploiting the terrain during the vehicle repairs, the troops responded with superior firepower, forcing the criminals to retreat and inflicting heavy casualties. During the exchange, three soldiers and one Department of State Services (DSS) operative sustained injuries; they are currently receiving professional medical care at the 8 Division Military Hospital in Sokoto.
