A Federal High Court in Abuja has moved the terrorism trial of former Justice Minister Abubakar Malami and his son, Abdulaziz, to March 10, 2026.
The delay happened because the government’s new legal team needs more time to study the evidence.
The case was recently moved from the DSS (secret police) to the Ministry of Justice. The lead prosecutor explained they just received the files and need to get familiar with the details before the trial starts.
Malami’s lawyers didn’t stop the delay, but they warned the court that if the government isn't ready by the next date, the case should be thrown out for being too slow.
The duo is accused of supporting terrorism and having illegal guns. Some of these charges are linked to how Malami handled sensitive files while he was the nation’s top lawyer.
In a separate legal battle, the EFCC has also charged Malami, his wife, and his son with laundering billions of naira. They have all told the court they are not guilty.
